Nearly everyone enjoys a good quiz. It’s one of the nation’s favourite pastimes, whether as a spectator or participator event. TV programs like Chris Tarrant’s “Who Wants to be a millionaire”, Nick Knowles’s Saturday night’s National Lottery Quiz, or The Million Pound Drop, command huge audiences who tune in every night to pit their own wits and general knowledge against those of the contestants on the hot spot. And when celebrities take part for fun, nominating the charities that they support as beneficiaries for any prize money they might win, it’s even more entertaining.
Quizzes now rank as one of the biggest participator events up and down the country, and thousands of pubs have special quiz nights that pack contestants in for a fun packed evening. Well, we at Langley Wellington love a good quiz team too, and we’re rather proud to say that we’re not bad at it either! In fact we recently scooped first prize at a special charity quiz night run by Rugby for Heroes at the New County Hotel Gloucester, a night of fund raising for a charity that raises money to help rehabilitate our gallant soldier boys who have been injured and traumatised whilst serving Queen and country in foreign lands, helping to prepare them to rejoin normal life in “civvy” street. The night was made even more poignant as news of the 6 soldiers killed in Afghanistan was broadcast that same day. Continue reading
